🧙♀️ Scary Witches’ Finger Cookies
Ingredients:
-
1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, softened
-
1 cup powdered sugar
-
1 large egg
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1 teaspoon almond extract (optional but recommended)
-
2 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
-
1 teaspoon baking powder
-
½ teaspoon salt
-
Whole almonds (for fingernails)
-
Red food coloring gel (optional)
-
Strawberry or raspberry jam (for “blood”)
Instructions:
1. Make the Dough
-
Beat the softened butter and powdered sugar together until smooth and creamy.
-
Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract; mix until combined.
-
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
-
Slowly add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
-
Cover and chill the dough for 30 minutes so it becomes easier to shape.
2. Shape the Fingers
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Scoop a tablespoon of dough and roll it between your palms into a skinny finger shape—make them thinner than you want the final result (they puff slightly when baking).
-
Press the center gently to create knuckles.
-
Use a small knife or toothpick to carve lines/wrinkles around the knuckles for a realistic, creepy look.
-
Press an almond at the tip for a fingernail.
-
Want bloody nails? Brush the bottom of the almond with a little jam before attaching.
-
3. Bake
-
Place shaped fingers on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
-
Bake for 20–25 minutes, until lightly golden on the edges.
-
Cool completely on a wire rack.
4. Add the Final “Bloody” Details
-
Once cooled, remove the almond, add a dab of jam, and press the almond back in for a gory effect.
-
Brush extra jam around the knuckle cracks if you want them extra spooky.
